Important Terms to Know

Here are some terms you should know

"ADA" = The Cardano native cryptocurrency used to make purchases on Book.io.

"Cardano" = One of the blockchains Book.io mints DEA assets on.

"DEA" or "Decentralized encrypted asset" = Book.io's exclusive method of protecting the IP and copyrights of content creators when publishing on the blockchain.  Learn more here: https://help.book.io/knowledge/what-is-a-dea

"Decentralized Storage" = Book.io uses ipfs and similar services, to store media (ebook epubs, audio, videos, etc.). This means that we do not keep the media on a central server, but rather on a safe peer-to-peer network.

"Ethereum" or "Eth" = A popular blockchain and cryptocurrency that Book.io also uses to mint DEA's on.

"Mint" = The creation of an NFT or DEA; most Book.io ebooks are minted when purchased.

"Secondary Marketplace" = A third-party marketplace, such as jpg.store and opensea.io where you can safely buy and sell Book.io books after they have been minted.

"Smart contract" = A smart contract, like any contract, establishes the terms of an agreement. But unlike a traditional contract, a smart contract’s terms are executed as code running on a blockchain like Ethereum. Smart contracts allow developers to build apps that take advantage of blockchain security, reliability, and accessibility while offering sophisticated peer-to-peer functionality — everything from books and media to insurance, loans and gaming.
