What is a DEA?

Decentralized Encrypted Assets that set Book.io apart.

A Decentralized Encrypted Asset or "DEA" is the technology that allows Book.io to protect the copyright and IP of authors, publishers & creators on the blockchain.

Standard digital assets created on the blockchain, often referred to as NFTs, allow for the media (epub, video, music, etc.) to be consumed by anyone, not just the individual that owns the asset.

Book.io created DEAs to encrypt the media to ensure that only the owner can view, listen, watch, etc. This prevents access from individuals who did not purchase the asset.

Along with the encryption, the media is "Decentralized", referring to the storage of the files. Book.io enlists ipfs and other distributed systems to store epubs, video, and audio in a way that they will be safely and permanently accessible, rather than on a vulnerable central server.
